Devices That Help Solve The Problem Of Peyronie's Disease

There is this not so common but existing disease that affects men but very little is known about it. According to statistics, about one in every one hundred men in the United States alone suffer from it. The target is the male organ which becomes awkwardly bent due to the effect of this disease. It is called Peyronie's disease named after the surgeon who first addressed the issue. In this article, you will learn about the issue, the 16th century surgeon who first mentioned it and the possible ways it can be treated.

What Is Peyronie's Disease?

Peyronie's disease is a condition wherein the penis is bent and causes pain during an erection or orgasm. The symptoms of this disorder gradually disappear after a few months. It is still unclear how the disease occurs, but it is most likely the result of damage to small blood vessels. Affected individuals may develop scar tissue as a result of the condition.

It is an uncommon affliction affecting the penis. Pain during erection or during orgasm is a sign of the disease. This condition generally goes away after a few months. The exact cause of the disease is unknown, but it's likely caused by damage to the penis' small blood vessels. If the disease is not detected early, scar tissue will form in the penis.

Peyronie's disease manifests in two stages: the acute phase and the chronic phase. The acute phase is characterized by plaque formation and the onset of curvature, which can last from five to eighteen months. The chronic phase is characterized by stabilization of plaque formation.

The goal of treatment for Peyronie's disease is to relieve pain, achieve a straight penis, and restore intercourse. Your urologist may recommend nonsurgical treatment or surgery to correct the deformity. After an examination, your doctor may prescribe medicines to ease the pain or recommend a lifestyle change. Nonsurgical treatments may include injections and oral medicines. In severe cases, surgery is recommended.

François Gigot de la Peyronie

Let's talk a little about the man that made the world to know about the disease of bent or curvature of the penis.

François Gigot de la Peyronié was a surgeon born in Montpellier, France. He trained in Montpellier and later went to Paris to study under Georges Mareschal, chief surgeon of the Hopital de la Charite. After completing his training, Peyronie returned to Montpellier and became a lecturer in anatomy and surgery at the Hotel-Dieu de Montpellier. From 1715 until his death in 1725, he lectured in Montpellier and served as a surgeon-major at the Hotel-Dieu de Montpellier.

His reputation has come about because he was a pioneer in surgery. He reorganized medical schools and introduced demonstrators. In 1731, he founded the Royal Academy of Surgery and personally funded its chair of surgery. In 1731, he also obtained four professorships in the Medical School of Montpellier. During his lifetime, he was in a bitter controversy with barbers and eventually persuaded the king to ban them. He also had a significant impact on the ban of wigmakers. It was he who first addressed the issue back in the day and hence, the disease bears his name till today.

How Does Penis Curvature Manifest?

There are several causes of penile curvature, including sexual intercourse, genetics, and trauma. Peyronie's disease is an abnormal inflammatory scarring process that can result from both factors. It may manifest in two phases: the acute phase, which is characterized by painful erections, and the chronic phase, which is characterized by inflammation and stabilization of the penile deformity and curvature. In both phases, patients may not develop penile plaque during non-erect states.

Surgery is one method for treating penile curvature caused by Peyronie's disease. Surgical treatments include the Nesbit procedure, a procedure performed by a specialized surgeon to straighten the penis. This procedure, which is also called the Lue procedure, can correct the condition. It is a viable option for Peyronie's patients who do not wish to undergo surgery.

How Does A Bent Penis Hinder Male Sexual Performance?

A bent penis may not necessarily be the result of Peyronie's disease. If the penis has some kind of plaque that makes it bend in an abnormal way that may be one of the hallmarks. Although the exact cause is unknown, most men experience no physical pain from a bent penis. Some may experience discomfort during sexual intercourse or trouble performing an erection. If you experience either of these symptoms, it's important to seek treatment immediately. The good news is that a bent penis usually corrects itself with time.

Men with Peyronie's disease have a bent penis. This condition affects approximately five to ten percent of men. A bent penis can hinder a man's sexual performance and cause erections to be shorter. If your penis has a 30-degree bend, it could make sexual intercourse difficult. A larger bend can prevent sexual intercourse altogether. If you are having trouble performing an erection because your penis is bent, seek medical treatment immediately.

Various Methods Of Treating Peyronie's Disease

There are various methods by which the treatment of a penile curvature can be treated. Each method claims to be the best but as we all know, everyone will claim that theirs is the best. This is definitely not true. There are scams and fake products out there but there are also very good and extremely safe methods. Solutions and safety is what I will focus on in this article.

Before you ever start anything towards straightening your bent penis with a penis extender device for instance, make sure it is the disease and not just a benign penile bend. Physical examination can be helpful in diagnosing the condition. During the inflammatory stage of the disease, the penis may become hard and indurated, as well as producing pain during the exam. Photographs of the erect penis are also helpful in confirming the condition.

Injections

A popular medical procedure for treating Peyronie's disease involves injections. First, a doctor will inject lidocaine into the penis to numb the area. Then, he or she will inject medications into the plaque. This process will likely require at least two injections, with each one taking about 10 minutes. The bandage is removed three hours after the procedure, but patients are not allowed to engage in sexual activity until 24 hours after the injections have taken effect. A second medication that is commonly used is verapamil, a calcium channel inhibitor. This drug is effective in treating early-stage Peyronie's disease and may be used after the injections are complete.

My question is: Why subject yourself to injections? Why go through all the proceeding if you don't have to? I personally hate injecting anything into my body. What if there are better and safer methods? Read on.

Surgeries

Surgeries are extremely effective in treating Peyronie's disease however, they have their short comings. A surgical procedure for peyronie's disease involves excising a portion of the penis' fibrous covering. Then, a patch is placed to restore erectile function. This procedure can lead to temporary loss of feeling, but is not ideal. Patients should also allow six to twelve weeks to recover before returning to sexual activity. But if you decide to undergo surgery, you'll have to wait for a few days, and then a follow-up visit is necessary.

Even though surgeries may effectively remove the plaque, they are very much expensive. We are talking of upwards of $10,000 here. Who has that much money? I sure don't. Furthermore, God forbid the surgeon should make a little mistake then bye bye male organ. We are all humans aren't we?

Pumps

Pumps in my opinion are a lot better than injections. Please pay attention to this. The penis pumps were not initially designed to make a curved penis straight. They were designed to increase the size and girth of the male organ until somebody discovered that it broke the plaque that caused his male organ to be bent and causing him pain. Yes pumps do work and very good too but there are still better options of treatment. Read on.

Exercises

For men with Peyronie's disease, there are a few exercises that can be done daily. First, massage the base of the penis gently with your thumb and index finger. Next, gently apply pressure to the penis shaft. When you do this, move closer to the head of the penis. Depending on your condition, you may need to reduce pressure or stop the exercise altogether. Repeat this process for at least 20 minutes each day. If the symptoms do not improve, you should seek medical advice.

Traction Devices

In penile traction therapy, the gradual expansion of the tissue stimulates the production of new collagen tissue. Continuous extension of fibrous plaques triggers significant increases in collagenase and metalloproteinases. The technique by which traction devices work is by breaking the plaque in a controlled and painless manner. Oh by the way, traction devices were initially designed as one of the techniques that use natural forces to increase penis sizes just like the pumps. Most medical literatures do not refer to a typical traction device as an efficient and natural penis straightener without a reason.

My Final Take

First, I personally do not like taking medications just for taking sake nor do I like injecting stuffs into my body. I like things to be as natural as possible. Oh, and I don't like to go under the knife for whatever reason. I have laid out my preferences for treating bent penis resulting from Peyronie's disease. It is your choice to make the final decision. Good luck.
