Floating plants are those plants that float in water even if they have their roots. These types of plants are not attached to the bottom of the water bodies. 

It is a type of aquarium plant. It is also known as hydrophytes. 

Lily pads also grow in water, but they are not floating plants. It is because the plant is attached to the bottom, so it is not a floating plant.

Depends On Lighting: The growth of your floating plant also depends on the lighting you provide to your water tank. If your water tank receives low light, you should opt for plants that need low light to grow and vice-versa.

Pre-requisites Of Floating Plants 

Floating plants for aquarium requires a few things to be thought of beforehand.

Firstly, make sure that your water tank receives enough light for the survival of your aquarium plants. Plants create energy from sunlight from the photosynthesis process for their survival. Without sufficient light, photosynthesis cannot occur, and your floating plant cannot survive. 

All it needs is sunlight or its artificial substitute.
